Thomas D. Lyons

“Too often the forest gets lost through the trees. That is why I believe it is vital to effective and efficient representation to understand the story of why my client has come to me, and to understand how my client defines victory in a particular situation. Armed with that information, my goal is not simply to try for any outcome, my goal is to obtain victory.”

Thomas joined Duke Holzman in April 2018 with a diverse background of experience, both in
and out of the courtroom.

Prior to and during his first two years of law school at SUNY Buffalo Law School, Thomas
served in the U.S. Army. During his service, Thomas obtained the rank of Sergeant, and he was
dual-classified as both a Military Police Officer and as the Paralegal Noncommissioned Officer
for the 181st Infantry Battalion.

Thomas served as President of the SUNY Buffalo Law School Moot Court Board, he earned a
CALI Excellence Award in New York Practice, and he graduated in the top 25% of his class
with a concentration in Civil Litigation. During law school, Thomas worked as a legal intern for
New Era Cap Co, Inc. He also clerked with a Buffalo-based civil litigation law firm, where he
continued to work following graduation.

Thomas has worked extensively with breach of contract litigation in State and Federal Courts
across New York, including insurance coverage disputes, commercial debt disputes, construction
disputes and commercial real estate disputes. He also has experience in estate planning.
